I bought this for my little one when he was about 17 months old. He loves to. He immediately understood the main purpose of laying wooden panels by color. Once he did that, he started playing with it more creatively, swapping colors or layering duplos on top. The label has plenty of other ways to play with it, too. For such a low price, it's surprisingly versatile. Great outdoor toy. Like all Melissa and Doug toys, the wood isn't an heirloom, but it doesn't have to be. I believe it will survive the short year my son is the right age for this toy and that lasts all the longer for the price. I think it would be a great gift for a 12-18 month old baby.
