Review on Rear Liftgate Hatch Lift Supports for Subaru Legacy Wagon (1995-2004) - Set of 2 Gas Springs/Shock Struts by Kartik Starks

Item sold for Subaru Outback (Legacy Outback is the international name for the American Outback, Legacy and Outback hatchbacks are the same, only difference between the models are the suspension settings and some accessories) . The manhole post appears to be almost the right length, but the attached mounting points are NOT the right size. The overall post is a bit longer than the stock VW, that may be ok, but the mounting point where the 2 bolts attach it to the sunroof is too big and the drilling points for the bolts are nowhere near the right place. It's close enough to look like it might fit if not looked at closely and compared closely. But after about 45 minutes of fiddling around in the dark and rain, it just doesn't fit. The mounting plate is a bit too big, the screw holes are 1/8" offset and misaligned. I spent another hour drilling holes to get it working, but I never managed to match the spacing the combination of a slightly longer tube of a few millimeters, a slightly larger pivot point and a much larger attachment point with misplaced holes.
