Review on StarTech Com 3 5In 5 25In Bracket Adapter by Jaya Walsh

Revainrating 4 out of 5

5-1/4 " to 3.5 " Hard Drive Adapter Overview

The rating of these products is meaningless because it covers multiple products. This review is for a 5-1/4" to 3.5" Hard Drive Adapter. I'm only giving it 4 stars because I don't want the higher rating to be inappropriately applied to other items in this multiple product listing. Suitable for Seagate ST4000 4TB model. Suitable for all modern 3.5 inch hard drives as there are several mounting positions. Screws are present - 4 with fine and 4 with coarse thread. Previously, hard-drive screws were standardized with coarse threads, and hard-drives and optical drives were standardized with fine-thread screws. I can't think of any reason why they shouldn't use the same bolts, but they don't. Many reviewers complained that too few screws or the wrong screws were included. That is not true. just the right number and type of screws. Coarse thread screws attach the hard drive to the bracket, while fine thread screws attach the bracket to the chassis. My only complaint is that these mounts cost a lot more than they should (probably cost less than a penny to manufacture). For those of us who use these adapter mounts frequently, some sellers may offer multiple packages at a lower unit price. Five compartments in the case I used. This bracket allowed me to install a hard drive in one of the top 5-1/4-inch drive bays that didn't get in the way of the memory cards. Another solution would be to use low profile storage, but I already bought 32GB (2x16) and just moving the HDD was the best option. Yes, I would recommend this adapter as it will fit a Seagate 4TB hard drive with no problem and I believe it will also fit any other 3.5" hard drive sold today. It's just stamped and bent steel, well finished, no sharp edges.
