VERY light load - Hardware

"You get what you pay for" is very true in this case. These are definitely the cheapest ratchet straps I've ever used. BUT, they work if used with great care for light loads. I used them to hold a '10' x 20' Domain Shed' for our family reunion day. I used 10 of these with 12" stakes to mount the canopy. Tripped over them, bent over and completely destroyed 3. The grandchildren stumbled a few times and then started counting how many adults stumbled over the mountains. It became a big joke. I only needed 10 pieces to keep the cap stable, so I had a few spares. They protected the canopy from the wind on a windy day. (local weather said we had less than 10mph winds that day). Really close to single use. Once tightened and locked into place I would trust them to carry only half their rated load. The first thing you should do is grease them. I apply a light coat of WD-40 to the entire ratchet and use it slowly and carefully or it will bend. I have found the straps to stretch more than other straps of this size that I have used. The hooks have the same load as the ratchet if you load the hook mouth and not the tip. The sides of the ratchet are thin metal and flex very easily. (just slightly thicker than the side of the soda can). If you "bend" the sides of the ratchet at all, it will either not release properly or, more likely, will force the "holding latch" out of position. This will either jam the ratchet into an unusable state or allow it to unload. (I was able to fix (straighten and reassemble) a pair of bent ratchets, but 3 were bent too much to be reused. Keeping the strap and ratchet in a perfectly straight line will reduce most ratchet issues. Bottom line would i do that i would not recommend using these ratchet straps for anything that would be costly if the strap failed, they have worked great for my use and i will pack them with a canopy next year.
