The rubber seal is not an o-ring. Instead, the manufacturer used a molding system to form a continuous seal. And if it breaks during installation, it's almost impossible to remove the old gasket and install the o-ring. Given the slightly oversized diameter, tearing is quite possible. I've tried and failed. I took absolute care to make sure the mating surface was clean, used enough lube to make it slide easily, and it still broke. Leaving my car with a nasty vacuum leak that gives you P0171/0174 codes, not to mention the computer overcompensates by injecting extra fuel causing the car to overheat. Now my car is stuck about 700 miles from my house. It seems like a good device but unless you get lucky and get a perfect setup I wouldn't buy this device. I would take the kit and fix your old block. And that's what I'm doing, and I'm taking it on the plane to fix the problem. Please note this is not my first rodeo. I enjoy working with BMW and have a good understanding of M54 engines.
