The NAS works great and has some very useful features thanks to the installed apps. The instructions that came with the NAS are pretty sparse, and the information online isn't much better. There are phone apps for setting up the NAS, but they have a 2-star rating. I found it easier to use the web interface and computer to set everything up. The 4 bays with RAID5 are pretty fast for reads and writes, the bottleneck will be the network interface, but the internal drive speed is very useful when you do video transcoding. I mainly use this for computer backups and in combination with Western Digital 4TB RED drives. While running them I discovered that there is an internal application for IronWolf drives that I believe was used to update their firmware. Had I known about this, I probably would have bought IronWolf drives. If you are not using this NAS for media streaming, I recommend disabling media mode. Media mode reserves half the memory for streaming, and when it's off and my normal usage, it uses about 70% of the memory. There are many features that I will most likely never use, such as: B. Setting up a VPN tunnel for access from the internet, which seems like too much of a risk to me, but for people who really need to stream their home content from anywhere in the world, it probably has value.
