Review on Dimensions Needlecrafts 72 74479 Disney Applique by Nicole Mcleod

Exactly what I expected

My daughter will be 6 in a few weeks. She made several sets of Dimension felt appliques with the help of a few small pillows and with varying help. I have this Olaf together with Anna (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00YE4YB80/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and Elsa (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product /B00YE4YQD0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1). Olaf was delivered first and she wanted to get to work as soon as she saw the box. My daughter wanted this to be done in one sitting, but her focus and sewing skills didn't allow for it. That's one of the reasons I liked this set. I' I tried to encourage slightly delayed rewards and longer-term projects that she could defer and tackle when she was ready. No! I don't want to take a break and come back later. I just want you to work and then I'll keep sewing." The closer we got to completion, the less she cared about matching the holes or making sure the stitching was neat. She just wanted to darn it. Her is 5. I'm happy with the finished product (as are they) The Anna and Elsa sets arrived later in the day and look like they'll be a lot easier but I'm a little disappointed with that This kit had exactly the level of complexity and detail that I expected and desired. To give you an idea, in step 1, sew the pupils to the eyeballs. Then add a sequin to each one (the included needle is too big to go through the center of the sequin so you have to improvise. I had a smaller needle handy. You can use glue or omit the sequins and tie a French knot .) Attach eyes and blue background patch to face, sew and mark on nose, sew on mouth (a little tricky as this is a thinner, stretchy felt). the corners of the mouth are very thin) and teeth, then sew on three buttons. Then you sew and darn the legs, sew the body together with the arms and legs, then you sew the head with the hair. Even with my daughter's padded feet pinned down, it was difficult to attach them. I finished this part. We did what the instructions call a reverse stitch (essentially running stitch one direction, then flipping and coming back the other direction to fill in the "gaps") for the legs and body, and I'm glad we did we did that. It takes longer but the result looks better and holds up better with the filling. Closing the head at the very end after it was stuffed was difficult for my daughter too, but I knew it was going to be a community project. She wants to start right away with Anna and Elsa, but I've had enough of Olaf. I love these measurements. Beginner Kits. I am working on the transition to free motion sewing with my daughter but would recommend these kits (if you can find them at a good price) to anyone who is just starting out or wants to start sewing with a child.
