Out of the box the sound was fantastic except there was horrible glitching whenever the machine was turned on. I could hear everything from the alternator to the fuel pump to the AC blower which to me indicated a grounding issue as the problem only occurred when the device was plugged in but it could have been any device. The system uses balanced audio, but the 3.5mm jacks are not balanced. To avoid noise, the device must have a separate analog ground. When disassembled, the 3.5mm jack ground was simply connected to the wrong point, the main ground, not the analog ground. The ground should be connected to the inside connector closest to the other two wires. I simply unplugged the JST XH connector, removed the ground pin with a screwdriver and plugged it into the third pin of this connector according to the labels on the back of the board. With this modification, it sounds like it should, without any glitches. To be clear it might be a coincidence I was wrong and everyone is right but if anyone has this problem I hope this helps.
