Review on Enhance Water Flow and Circulation with Hydor Koralia Evolution Aquarium Circulation Pump by Ryan Foxz

Quiet unless using a Smartwave controller - otherwise it makes a popping noise

So I was a bit disappointed in buying two new Hydor Koralia 850 pumps with a Hydor Smartwave controller. Speaking to Hydor Technical Support, he said that all AC circulators sold by Hydor make a clicking or popping noise when the impeller hits the front of the casing when starting because the pump starts in reverse and has to spin forward. If you're using a Smartwave controller, that means a popping sound from each connected pump every few seconds, so pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop, pop. you have the idea This popping noise is very annoying, so I asked the technician what I could do to fix this problem. Therefore, in a long discussion with a Hydor technician, he recommended either increasing the cycle of the Smartwave controller to have more. Quiet time between each annoying pop, that's not acceptable to me, or upgrade to a Wavemaker 2 / Wavemaker 4 with a Koralia 12VDC pump. The tech replied that all of their DC circulators have no banging problems because DC always runs in the right direction. Sound so you can enjoy the benefits of these pumps with the Smartwave controller. So, what if you haven't bought or don't want to use the advanced features of the Smartwave controller, well, let's just say everything is actually very good. Once the pumps are running they are quiet with a low hum that is barely audible and as such I would say this is a good buy for "non-controller based" use. I would like to add that Hydor support has been very prompt. Telephone and Hydor were very helpful and pleasant.
