I bought this lens primarily for night/astro photography. However, I am basing this review on simply booting up the lens on my Sony a7s and taking pictures of my house. The picture quality is pretty good. The lens is quite sharp for the price. Depending on the ratio of the light direction, the lens loses a lot of contrast. If the light comes from the side, some contrast is lost. Forgot backlight. For night photography this isn't a problem unless you're dealing with a street light, but maybe it can be used for effects as well. This lens does not replace your normal general purpose lens. Definitely a niche lens, be it night/astrophotography or extreme wide angle photography. The lens also shows purple fringes towards the extreme edges of the frame. It can make itself felt. Build quality is pretty good, a little flimsy, but you won't confuse this lens with Sony or Canon quality. This is a manual lens so you can set the aperture using the aperture rings, which look relatively smooth. The zoom is smooth, but it takes a turn and a half to zoom from one end of the range to the other. It's actually hard to know if you're focusing properly as it's sharp over most of the zoom range due to the wide angle. Keep in mind that this is a budget wide angle lens so it gives very good results for the price. I'm not sure I would use it everyday for something like landscape photography. However, for night/astrophotography this is excellent quality. I will update this review after taking some astro photos with it. UPDATE: I have used this lens several times to photograph the Milky Way at night. The lens works fine, I set the lens to F2.8 aperture and focus to infinity. For my particular camera, I use a 30 second shutter speed at ISO 3200 and get pretty good shots every time.
