First of all, you need to buy a mattress for this crib, because a 1 inch "pillow" is not enough. We bought this crib because of the swing function. Now to my questions: The mechanism that allows you to lock it in a fixed mode is just a simple metal bracket held in place by a Phillips head screw in the wood. This mechanism should have a machined screw in the insert and a pressure washer so you can flip it up and down without turning the screw (and if you end up tightening it over and over again the wood will come out of the wood). The screw holes that secure the fixed parts of the cot should be fitted with wooden knob covers or at least a suitable plastic cover. Maybe they thought it might cause choking, but if it did, they had to precisely match the crib to the color of the hardware. It does indeed look sticky with open holes. I ordered some 1/2" wood end caps which I will paint white and glue on so they can't be removed (to prevent choking). These come with small black wheels with brass caps. Both. Brass doesn't look good in my opinion "Looks good with a white crib. However, we knew we had never had wheels installed. Any of the three changes above would hardly be worth the cost. The best thing it's good for is if you're buying a Dream On Me 3 mattress and want some softness you can use it as a mattress topper.My more utilitarian look, the LA Baby Deluxe Holiday crib (which folds for travel and has better wheels) might be a better value.I have 3 mattresses at a time Bought and bought side by side before assembling everything there I think the LA Baby mattress is the same quality as the Dream on Me 3 but much softer.
