For the money this scope works quite well. There were no instructions for this scope - it would have been nice to have a proper manual but the image of the series enabled me to put it together properly. The horizontal boom is unique and the head is quite heavy. This makes it difficult to keep the hand in place when the head is turned to one side. Not a huge downside, but if you think you'll be using your scope in this position a lot, or plan to use it in a position other than vertical, consider the twin-yoke model below. The optics are bright and clear if you can get the setting right and keep your head perfectly still. I have ordered eye pads to help with this issue but due to the very restricted position of the eyes it can be tiring with very long use. I seem to remember having the best positioning with the Bausch & Lomb oscilloscope I used in the company lab. Another thing is that zoom and focus interact a lot. Zoom in and then refocus and it's not as strong as you might think, so it's a little awkward to zoom in and out of focus for a specific shot. But once you have it, with a 0.5 lens and a fairly wide working field, you have enough working distance that it's possible to refine the SMT - down to the level of your soldering equipment and surgical skills. LED light is suitable for most purposes. . It is variably bright and bright enough. Side light is useful for reading engraved part numbers.
