The base is sturdy, filled with cement from what I can see. It is easily assembled. Adjustments are difficult because the middle joint where the extending arms meet is only an up-and-down pivot point and is not side-to-side, which makes maneuverability to exactly where you want it nearly impossible in limited space. I have it set beside my couch and don’t have a lot of room to work with. With only up and down movements available, the arm closest to the magnifier is always too close to my body and is never in a comfortable position for me to utilize this magnifying lamp as intended. The arm closest to the base also doesn’t stay in place (no wing nut to secure its position), so it’s constantly raising the whole other arm and magnifier. That being said, the other features are nice and as described. The brightness is fantastic, and the dimmer/brightness adjustments and tones of light make it easy to adjust to optimum conditions for whatever the use. The cord has sufficient length, though the cord itself is a little odd. It has an ac adapter that detaches like it would for a music keyboard instead of a traditionally wired plug. The cord is secured to the armed sections and doesn’t go through the stand or stand base so the magnifying lamp can be easily detached and clamped to a desk or workbench (with an included clamp accessory that you’d attach after removing the lamp from the stand and base). I haven’t tried it with the clamp so can’t comment on that portion. I’ll likely return it because it doesn’t meet my maneuverability needs.
