Why keep using a broken 10 year old remote control?
Replaced my original Sony surround sound remote control. OG died, barely turning on and off. The replacement device worked immediately without any problems. The buttons are a bit thicker, the case looks a bit cheaper. It's not as accurate as the OEM in its design, but it's reliable enough that it just works. If your 10 year old remote gets weird spend $9 and have it replaced, I'm glad I did.
