Review on πŸ–οΈ Sakura XLP50 50-Piece Cray-Pas Expressionist Oil Pastel Set in Assorted Colors by Kelly Caballes

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very hard oil pastels.

I have used these pastels in the past but have switched to more expensive ones such as Spezial and Senneliers. I was interested in the lightfastness of these pastels and found a chart on the Sakuraofamerica website listing all the colors and their lightfastness. The 34 colors of the set were rated as very good or excellent. I loved it and ordered another set and I think I will always use them :). These are very hard oil pastels and some of them don't lay evenly. they are waxy, but the colors are very pleasing, and the sticks have good pigment saturation. You can use a softer oil pastel on it to bring out the highlights, or you can blend them with paint thinner and a brush. Color expanders make a mess, I don't use them. Colors I will not use: deep pink, crimson, scarlet, orange, teal, dark green, green-grey, pale green, lilac, light purple, pink, deep pink, salmon pink, and pale orange. These colors were considered fair, bad, or out of control. Regardless, the 50 piece set is amazing value and definitely worth buying. I have attached a drawing I made using these pastels and some green senneliers. These colors were considered fair, bad, or out of control.
