Although I have a newer Xyron, I kept the old machine and only put laminating cartridges in it. Although cold lamination is not as durable or weather resistant as hot lamination, it is intended for temporary outdoor use or moderate indoor use and general crafting. Keep in mind that the plastic material is thinner than that used for laminating, but thicker than the clear tape commonly used for similar purposes. For anything that can't handle heat, this is a great alternative to applying a protective coating.
