Cheap because they are cheap
The fleece is VERY thin, more like a cheap felt sheet much thinner than what you see in the photo. The wrist strap is mainly for show as the position of the velcro doesn't really allow for tightening the gloves around the wrist so snow keeps getting in or falling off. They were vacuum packed, which looked unattractive, but more importantly, they never "flapped". Spend more money to get a better pair.
