This log is colored and not safe for fish! My Betta was in excellent health, some time after this magazine was in the tank I noticed he was having some problems. While I usually avoid over-cleaning, I've decided to remove all of the decorations from his tank and clean them. When I removed this log I found that the log was painted and the paint on the underside of the log was blistering and peeling! I did a 100% water change and did NOT put it back in the tank. My Betta is secretly better now. While I can't prove the log made my betta sick it was fine before I put this log in the tank and is improving now that the log has been removed and there is no doubt that the paint peeled off and it doesn't is a safe item for an aquarium!
