After upgrading my dish from SD definition quality to HD (3-LNB) resolution ) I tried to aim the dish by looking at it and using the compass. However, this failed after a day of trying. That's why I ordered this item. This did NOT give me the correct alignment but it got me close to where I could fine tune it. My two satellite tuners on the DVR are picking up about 97% of the signal. My area has also had 8 inches of rain in the last 3 days. Only a few times the satellite signal was lost, sometimes for several hours. But it's normal. All in all, this article should help you get closer to where you need to be in alignment, and it costs $11. Side NOTE: If you are installing a satellite dish in the sky and looking for it, you will need to remove this digital viewfinder once the ALT is lowered and more accurate. This allows the DVR to capture the signal and display the true percentage of signal capture. At least that was the case in my situation. Since this part was still between the dish and the receiver, I wasn't able to complete the satellite and DVR setup.
