I installed 4 of these to replace a cracked tie rod and tie rod grease fitting on a 1997 Ford Ranger XLT. The OEM oil boot on my truck is the same as for the tie rods and tie rod ball joints. Pros: - Easy to install. They slide, and because of their slipperiness and flexibility, they snapped into place when I tightened the castellated nut on the ball joint. They fit exactly on the ball joint. Cons: The OEM boot has a plastic retaining ring on the wide end that is specifically designed to fit into the recess on the ball joint. The Energy Suspension boot doesn't have this, so the rim of the boot actually emerges around that manufactured cutout at the ball joint. As a result, it is not as tight as an OEM lubricator and sealing depends on its elasticity. Excess fat drains through a wide end hole. Therefore, make sure that the ball joint is very clean when installing, so that the new boot has a clean sealing surface. I filled them with grease like other grease fittings: the grease starts sloshing around the seal. Doing this with this gasket resulted in a lot of excess grease that kept being squeezed out over the next week of riding. I crawled under the truck and wiped off the excess grease 3 times. I wish I could find something similar to the OEM style (with fitting/O-ring) but this is a worthy replacement. I will oil them and check them regularly to make sure they stay tight.
