Review on 🌐 Enhance GPS Connectivity with Dual Electronics XGPS160: Multipurpose Universal 5 Device Bluetooth Receiver featuring Wide Area Augmentation System and Portable Attachment by Eric Mueller

Ok good value for money GPS, finder and accessories

Decided to get one on KW after a double FMS failure in mid Pacific in class II airspace. The backup navigation failed on both FMS, leaving us with the Jeppesen map on our iPad EFB as the only navigation at this point. A crew member had a Bluetooth GPS receiver and we were able to use it until it was possible to recover the FMS near the target. The battery life of the XGPS160 was good enough and when it acquires satellites it works well. With the MD-11 I have to move it from one side of the cockpit to the other depending on whether it's moving east or west to pick up satellites and there are times when it takes a long time to find them. Sometimes he loses her, sometimes not. It can connect up to five devices via Bluetooth, so I use my iPhone to monitor satellites in view and battery status. This comes in handy at sea because when it's tracking satellites you can use the iPad EFB anywhere in the cockpit without being right by the window. However, there are times when the iPad gets a satellite signal but the XGPS160 doesn't. I haven't seen the XGPS160 track Russian satellites (GLONASS) yet. I can't tell if it's a device issue or a location issue. A few days ago I spoke to a test pilot who uses a Garmin Glo and he said he's never had a problem getting a signal. I don't usually mind XGPS when crossing the Atlantic when the unit is on the south side of the cockpit. Pacific crossings sometimes fail.

Pros
  • hands free
Cons
  • boring packaging
