I purchased this product in April and received my fish in early May 2008. All the reviews I read said you don't have to clean the tank after 6 or 8 weeks. I had to clean mine in less time, I guess it all depends on the type of fish you get. I have 2 species of goldfish and a betta (male). 2 goldfish - fantail, she poops a lot so the water is dirty. I love my BiOrb even though it only took about an hour to clean it. The filters are easy to change, I have 2 live plants and I enjoy watching the fish swim. Believe me I would recommend BiOrb to friends and family especially if you have young children and want to try something for them. I would go for a size less than 16 gallons but I enjoy that. Oh I read earlier that if you have to remove the charcoal (when the fish are sick) you have trouble putting it back in and it won't stay. True, coal was floating throughout the aquarium. . But I got most of it and had to use a brand new filter. Just make sure you get a first aid kit and a set of seaweed before you go fishing. Just in case your fish gets sick. Like my first rooster. Drops should also be procured for water treatment. Oh, another point: they have a feeding hole, ours has become dirty over time. But after a little cleaning, the mess was gone.
