If you change to a new pad compound, buy new brake discs
My rotors were previously lapped with a different pad compound. The installation of these sintered pads led to deposits on the brake discs and brake chatter. After repeatedly cleaning and then re-lapping the pad and rotor, I got the same knock. The manufacturer's technical service confirmed the need to replace the rotors when installing pads with a different composition.
