Kayaking is my business. I have paddled most of my life and have built many kayaks. This hatch is durable and adaptable. I put it on the back deck of my latest Heritage kayak - it took a bit of heat from the heat gun after I cut out the hole because the deck wasn't exactly flat - not much. I placed it open end against the back of my seat, attached a waterproof chain to the lid and base (drilled holes) to keep the lid from falling out of reach. I drilled a hole in the base and attached a clasp that allows me to attach a hook or string to whatever I put in the yak's back. This way I can drag the item back and forth without having to reach inside and dig to get the item. I like this a lot more in my new Heritage kayak than other kayak hatches I've used in the past. However, the kit does not come with a floor seal. I expect this to be a no-brainer for those looking to make similar modifications to their kayak.
