Review on Sierra 18 7350 Mallory Evinrude Outboards by Mario Beats

Revainrating 4 out of 5

So glad I ordered this pump!

I have a 1969 Evinrude 25hp that needed constant topping up. I bought new hoses but he still lost gas station. this pump and I thought I'd give it a try and save about $70 on a new original pump. It should come with the correct screws, but it doesn't. Rather than buying new bolts, I CAREFULLY unscrewed the old base, pressurized the rest of the pump to keep it from falling apart, and reused the old base. "Then no new bolts are needed" The orientation of the fuel outlet is offset by 90 degrees on most engines. Simply loosen the top thumbscrew (you may need a coin to do this), rotate the exhaust port 90 degrees, and retighten the thumbscrew. so easy No new hose needed. That part you turn is a simple gas filter. And orientation is not critical to pump performance. Just keep it aligned with the spacer. You could damage the plastic filter. Now to the pump. DO NOT have the pump separate when changing bases, or you will have to put a few tiny parts together to make it work properly (it can be done, but better NOT do it). When removing the base, separate the membrane from the base, paying attention to the alignment of the two holes, and place the original base in the same way. I believe the two tabs are at the bottom of the pump. If you get it right, my engine started on the second pull after putting this pump in. I can't believe what a difference. Or, if you don't feel comfortable changing the BASE, just buy new 2" bolts. I wanted my pump to be as close to factory as possible, hope my review helps someone! Great pump, great price! It would be five stars. If only the right screws were included. But they are easy to find at any hardware store!
