I was a bit skeptical when I ordered this but I have a problem with the 40g tank and needed more or better filtration. As much as I'd like to, I can't put a canister on this rig unless I want to rip it apart and move it. won't happen anytime soon. I liked that this hob has both a skimmer and a UV sterilizer. And that the input flow is individually configurable for both the skimmer and the fence. It looks like all standard environments with a low-quality filter, which is not surprising. I saved the sponge, loaded both trays with materials of my choice, assembled, tossed, and lit. . It's been in the tank for about two weeks and I'm still impressed. It's not the quietest, but quieter than others. UV works great. I've been turning the lights on and off about 12 hours a day for the past 2 weeks and almost all of the bright green algae spots have gone. The water in this aquarium is the cleanest. The protein skimmer can be a bit noisy, but once you find the right flow control, this is no longer a problem. But the real test is yet to come. I still have an earlier stove working, one that didn't seem to be doing the job very well. I figured that after a month both would work to get the bacteria into the new filter then I would remove the original hob and see how this works on its own.
