To say I'm disappointed with this filter would be an understatement. First, the device didn't come with instructions, so I had to search YouTube for videos on how to properly assemble and get it working. Second, the device is noisy! The surface skimmer had to be removed due to the noise and yet the unit rattles and belches constantly, even after the water flow is stopped. Most importantly and why I gave this product 1 star is that the most important feature for me, UV light, does not work right

This filter was bought mainly for a UV sterilizer. Absolutely quiet and filters excellently. However, disassembling each compartment, cleaning it (washing the bioballs in aquarium water!) and reassembling it into the "cage" and re-inserting it into the filter became labor intensive. I realized it was just clever over-engineering and basically a gimmick. Quieter than my old Biowheel filter that needed new filters every week. No splashing, it has a cool sump/skimmer that picks up floating debris like leaves, an adjustable water intake I can lower almost to the bottom of my tank, and filter media replacements are a lot cheaper. I purchased this filter because my 20 gallon aquarium was experiencing a very severe algae bloom. I did 4 water changes in two weeks, 20%, 40%, 50%, 100%.
