With a little greasing this could be a great budget car

As mentioned the packaging of this machine is terrible. I thought I broke my toe when I lifted the sew on piece and the flywheel fell out. Although everything is fine. I can tell from the start, just planning on taking the bare car outside and spraying it to get rid of any oil residue coating everything. I also took the opportunity to use the paddlewheel on my grinder to get rid of some nasty casting flashes, smooth out the sharp machined edges on the flywheel, and round off some of the cam lever arms a bit more. Not exactly a mandatory step, but it made the car more enjoyable to use. The same can be done with a dremel or a file and a little more time. After that I wiped it off and cleaned the shiny areas with fine steel wool. Thanks to these steps, he looked much better. The next step is to set up the machine for use. Plan to buy leather needles. The one in the car was broken from the start. It's ok, there aren't many of these, and you should still have spares. I rubbed the parts of the spool and smoothed out some of the sharp edges to make sure it moves smoothly. I don't know how they sewed the included leather patch because my machine was at full needle depth. When fully extended, it didn't even go into the base. After setting it up to just touch my finger on the bottom of the machine and adjust the tension, it started sewing just fine. Needle depth adjustment is easy with a flathead screwdriver. As a video aid, "mainly acres" has a great searchable video on setting up these machines. After about two hours of cleaning and tweaking, I was able to sew leather and thick materials with ease. Just to play around, I folded a ready made piece of leather that I had over 8 times almost half an inch thick and it sewed it together quite nicely. With a little elbow grease, this can be a great budget car for the average person to afford. Overall I am very happy that I was able to get my hands on this rough cut diamond.

Pros
  • Great service
Cons
  • Could have opted for a newer model
