This item is GREAT for chocolate fondue! We have previously attempted to use gel/sterno fondue sets where it was extremely difficult to control the heat. This set works great with chocolate if you set the heat to a very low temperature. We started by pouring hot water into the water bowl (it only needs to be poured 1/4 of the bowl) and pre-melting the chocolate in the microwave to soften it before adding it to the ceramic pot. We did a 3 hour dive and didn't replenish the water in the pot at all! We enjoyed the event rather than using other fondue sets; NO need to constantly light and extinguish gel heating pots and deal with steam escaping from the set! I highly recommend if you are new to fondue or using the electric method to "experiment" with this item before your event. In addition to burning off the pungent odor (be sure to read the directions, and I recommend doing the initial "burning off" under a fume hood), eliminate potential "blowouts" if you have a group. HAVE FUN!
