Faulty Product - Automotive Safety & Security

**UPDATED - SEE BELOW** Initial Review: This product was extremely frustrating to use. It looks like Rexing hasn't taken the time to fully develop or support this product yet, and customers are just unlucky when they run into problems. Installation: It was pretty easy. You mount it on the windshield, route the cable up to the headliner, down the A-pillar and down to the cigarette lighter. If you also use it with a reversing camera, you will need to route this cable as well. Although in my Accord both cars fit snugly in the A-pillar and dashboard. I got it working and after 30 minutes everything was working fine. Video Quality: This is the main reason I bought this camera and I was expecting excellent quality considering the higher cost of this camera compared to other Rexing cameras. The quality and resolution of the front camera is excellent. The rear camera felt a bit grainy, but acceptable. There are no real complaints about the quality of the video. Feature/Ease of Use: This is one area where this DVR completely disappoints. The menu system's number of buttons and modes is frustrating to navigate and lacks any logical design at all. Worse, either there is a typo in the little guide, or my DVR just doesn't work. The instructions said the indicator would flash blue while recording. Mine blinked between red and purple. What does that mean? Who knows because it's not mentioned in the instructions. Visiting Rexing's website was a waste of time. There aren't any online manuals more detailed than the little one you get in the box, and clicking on the V5 FAQ brings up links to pages in the manual for their other cameras, which have completely different layouts and interfaces . What does the flashing red and purple indicator mean? I still don't know. FAIL. The DVR I received also didn't allow me to view video files on the device itself, although a small manual says you can do that if you turn on "playback mode". How do I enable play mode? The manual says you can switch between modes by pressing the power button. When I press the power button on my camera, all that happens is that the camera turns off. Nothing I did, not a button press, brought me to a screen where I could view the video files stored on the memory card. What good is a dash cam if you can't show footage to a cop immediately after an accident? In theory, you should be able to download an app that will allow you to connect your camera to your cell phone via Wi-Fi and transfer those clips to your phone so you can play them that way. The only problem is that the Rexing app doesn't work at all. I played with it for about twenty minutes before playing a three minute clip. So think of this scenario: you're in an accident, you have evidence that the dashcam isn't your fault, and you ask the cop to wait twenty minutes while you try to get your camera to work. Your mobile phone so you can play the footage back to them. How well do you think things will go for you? FAIL. By the way, this rexing app has an average user rating of 1.7/5 stars. Apparently I'm not the only one with this problem. Read them and you will find people complaining about sudden updates that made the app unusable. Others complain that the app just doesn't work. As a result, the only real way to view the footage was to remove the memory card from the device and insert it into the laptop. When I did this I saw that the quality of the video was excellent. but I don't want to take my laptop with me everywhere. Are there any solutions to these problems? May be. Unfortunately, the tiny little guide they include doesn't offer a lot of troubleshooting advice, menu guides, or anything else. It's very vague and it seems that some of the instructions are either wrong or not updated to reflect the interface design or functionality of their latest camera. All of this would be understandable if it were a low-budget camera. It is not. I bought this camera thinking it would offer a premium user experience. When you're spending that much money on a dash cam, you don't have to deal with something like this. After several days of trying to get it to work, I finally put everything back in the box and sent it back. Rexing offers to send me a new unit even though I have already returned the Revain DVR. They were willing to send a replacement for free while I updated my review - that's what it is. saved on the memory card. I was able to access Playback mode on the new V5 that was sent to me. but it is very bulky and difficult to use. Many of the issues remain - there's no manual describing how to use Playback mode - just a small mention that you can access Playback mode by pressing the mode button. Once you switch to playback mode, there are no instructions on which buttons to use to play/pause/rewind/fast-forward. This is a trial and error method. I went to the Rexing website hoping that in the eight months since my original review they would update the V5 info and manual. They have not. You can still download the same useless little guide that came in the box. and if you click on the link for more information about the playback mode, you still get to the information about the V1 dash cam which has a completely different interface. so it's pointless. I only added one star to my original one star review because they were willing to send me a new camera for free. But many of the initial complaints I had with the original device eight months ago remain with the new device they sent me. The app is still pretty bad, the dashcam menus and buttons are extremely awkward to use, and while I was able to access Playback mode on a new device, it was extremely frustrating to use - something you don't want. Dealing with after an accident when you need this dash cam the most. So the pros of this dash cam are that the video quality is excellent and the installation was easy. Disadvantages relate mainly to the complexity of the playback mode. This one also tends to flash red and purple from time to time. and I still have no idea what that means.
