This stand can actually be side mounted. I would give it five stars except what others have said is true: THE SCREWS SUPPLIED ARE TOO SMALL. They can slip through the mounting holes. The manufacturer really needs to make improvements here. Luckily I have several homemade sets of screws and nails of all kinds, so I found the ones with bigger heads. I don't know if it shows in my closet photo, but I attached the top back corner with a special cable tie that has a hole for a screw. These are usually sold for mounting LED lights, but they help with the job by supporting your back so it doesn't wobble. At the manufacturer's request, it would make sense to provide two more mounting holes along the "bottom". I also made sure not to mount the device perfectly level, but to tilt it slightly downwards so the windings hold better.
