HoldPeak 1800 and 985C-APP work pretty well, with some tweaks it would be great!

First of all I bought both HoldPeak 1800 and HoldPeak 985C-APP right after the release (I had them for an hour). The HP-1800 is +0.3% different than my existing ThermoWorks unit (very VERY old LCD is fading and needs replacing, but as it's still very accurate I might just be looking for a new screen). HP-985C-APP is off but within specification by +2.0 compared to HP-1800. It would be great if there was a way to calibrate one block under another, but I'm quite happy with +2.0. With all the negative claims about extreme devices, I was very concerned. The reason I bought 2 different devices was because I wanted the best chance of having 3 unique temperature comparison devices and also because I love the smartphone app. I will mount the HP-985C APP on the ceiling and use the temperature control app on my worktop. I USE THE APP, so of course I found a bug. If you have an active Bluetooth connection and use an app to toggle the laser marking, the app won't register the changes until you toggle the backlight. This should be easy to fix if you share the HP 1800 APP. Anyway, getting started was very easy, but it's the first app I've ever installed on my phone that wasn't available through Google Play for Android, so there was some serious nausea until it finally got downloaded and didn't worked. My virus software said this app doesn't have a good reputation but so far so good. In terms of price, you can save around $30 by buying directly from HoldPeak. But given all the issues people are having, I don't risk bad devices or devices being calibrated further apart. While compared to all other devices, the HP-1800 does have the second highest range against the "perfect" competitor, but given these 4 reviews, no stated warranty, and incorrect images for the device I wanted, I didn't want to risk it . Overall I'd like to save $30, but since both devices come with 20% off my next order, I'll check out your other smartphone-enabled products and clear up some doubts. I didn't expect the kit to include a screwdriver. , nor the included HP-985C APP case, so I was pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, like the other review, the instructions are a little hard to understand and contain incorrect English. On the HP-985C APP, some mode settings disable the light and laser on/off functions due to button remapping, which was difficult to understand given the instructions. Aside from the price difference and the app not reporting the status of the laser when the backlight toggles, I'm very impressed. Both devices are hefty but not heavy, use the same plastic body, come with a 2-year warranty and lifetime tech support. If anything changes I'll let you know, but I definitely recommend both devices.

Pros
  • Hands-free
Cons
  • Very expensive
