Review on WD 5TB My Passport for Mac Portable External Hard Drive: USB-C, USB-A Compatible, Blue by David Citizen

Just didn't work - customer support didn't help

My Passport for MAC didn't arrive, plugged it in and everything looked fine, started backing up my Mac and got an error message saying it couldn't complete it the fuse. After this message it went downhill. After ejecting the drive and reconnecting it, the external drive didn't show up in Finder (and Finder is set to look for external drives), tried all ports and no difference. Tried it with another Macbook, same problem. Run First Aid with Disk Utility - Failed. Did the usual internet research, found that a lot of people seemed to be having similar problems, and tried to reinitialize the drive but kept getting the error that it couldn't write to the last blocks. Downloaded WD Utility and tried to erase the drive so it can be reformatted and got an error message saying the operation failed. I wrote to WD and got a message that I tried to erase and reformat the drive. I tried Apple and WD utilities again and got an error saying the process didn't work. Wrote back that wiping the drive didn't work and that I don't want to return the drive without first wiping the data as the drive seems to have copied some information from my computer before we experienced the first error. I received a response that WD would only send me a new drive if I returned the drive I had. Based on the emails I received from "Support" I don't think I was dealing with a person. I think it was an AI program preparing a generic response based on a few keywords without considering the rest of the information provided in the email. At this point I seem to have wasted my money. Conclusion - if you don't get a defective drive, the reviews show that the product is great. But if you get a bad ride, you're on your own. The support team is unhelpful and may not even be human.
