I like the product, the quality didn't let me down.

I have such a drive in the 1 TB version, there is a USB-C connector on both sides. I chose this one specifically for Mac, precisely because of the connector. this time I took the 5 TB version, also marked for Mac. which is typical, exactly the same disk, but without "for Mac" costs 2022 less. I decided to overpay for the connector and what do I see in this configuration? yes, it says "for Mac", but in fact this version is with the "wrong" USB 3.0 and an adapter to Type C. I'm attaching a photo.

    Pros
    • traditionally high quality WD, volume
    Cons
    • identical to the "non-Mac" version, which costs 2022 less there are no rubber "paws", which were in the 1 TB version.

    Nice price, good quality.

The output on the hard drive is a regular USB for hard drives, not type c. In complete silence, you can hear quite well how it works, I pasted the felt legs. In the bustle of the day is not heard. The cord does not slip out of the hard drive. Before that, I had nsk Seagate, Toshiba drives, simple ones, the cable was loosely inserted into them, which led to a loss of communication with the computer.

    Pros
    • 4 TB as in the description, it pleases, otherwise I’m used to buying a little less than stated Live looks better than in the photo. Blue is not cheap. In general, the body is well made.

Exactly as promised by the manufacturer, high quality.

I took it under Mac, because was cheaper than analogues by 500-1000. (for 6650) more than a year ago. At first I was afraid that under Windows I wouldn’t find drivers or I wouldn’t be able to format it. Deleted partitions, formatted in NTFS. I copied the contents of several old disks, there is still a lot of space left. For storing photos, that's it. Put the utility WD Drive Utilities just in case. During idle time, it stops, when accessed, it warms up for a long time - 5 seconds. You can…

    Pros
    • 4 TB for almost the minimum cost, WD (I respect the brand), sufficient write and read speed for storing files.
    Cons
    • When I copy a lot, it starts to make noise and get a little warm. It can take a long time to connect - somewhere up to 15 seconds. Sometimes you have to move the USB cable to connect, probably because of the old laptop. I'm thinking of buying another disk and making a backup copy.

Not happy with this product, bad in use.

To begin with, something happened to me that you wouldn’t even wish on your enemy because of this hard drive. It was in August 2022, when, after shooting two weddings (25 GB RAW) on my old Nikon D70, I copied everything to this hard drive and nowhere else, since I had very little space on all devices then and freed up time no, I had to leave and process these two weddings on my Acer Aspire 5930G laptop on the road, I didn’t have time to copy these weddings there, and I formatted everything for…

    Pros
    • 1) Good build quality 2) Compactness 3) Lightness 4) Relative speed
    Cons
    • 1) The unreliability of the hard drive itself, which played a fatal role and threw me a lot of money. 2) Short cable included 3) Glossy finish

A good product, more pros than cons.

before that there was a WD My Passport Studio on 1TB aluminum usb2 - so it was generally silent compared to this. Case not included - available only in My Passport Slim WDBFPF0020BAL Normal screw for Mac. Has some pros Looks stylish, lightweight, fast write and read speed, small size, practically does not heat up, good reliable usb3 connector, rubber feet, reasonable price Got cons: Noisy in idle mode compared to Studio - it was generally silent. The plates, as I understand it, are 500Gb…

Lived a short and meaningless life

Endless attempts to reformat and troubleshoot this unresponsive drive on the computer. In the end, old-fashioned mechanical reformatting was resorted to. The drive behaved the same way after a mechanical reformat. WD junk drive died confused and clueless but without much pain. Instead of sending flowers, consider donating to other companies that make external drives that actually work.

    Pros
    • Very good price
    Cons
    • Some problems

Good if you don't use WD Security

This drive attracted me in part because WD provided software to encrypt it. But the software caused many problems. It didn't turn on and off when it should (there are different settings), the support guides are confusing and vague, and at one point I found that my Time Machine backup had been completely erased from the hard drive. (I'm not sure what the security software did, but I can't figure out what else it did.) After a week, I finally completely erased the drive, disabled the security…

However, this is a great product.

The first order came in 2 days but I still couldn't get it to work. I called Western Electric, the manufacturer, after finding them online. The tech support staff were very helpful and after some testing found that the product was defective. This happens with technical products, ie a percentage of defective products leaves the assembly line. Revain gave me a free shipping label to return the item. I put the CD back in the Revain plastic wrapper, resealed it, and took it back to Mail Man Joes…

    Great for this non-tech

My non-tech needs are simple. As a freelance marketing writer, I needed a portable drive that could back up my iMac on a regular basis in case my computer crashed or I needed to send it in for repair. I'm using the latest Mac software and have a time capsule, but that gives me extra security. I like that it's already formatted for Mac. I like that it's plug-in capable and copies files quickly and without fuss. And I love that it pairs with Time Machine on my Mac and password protection to keep…

Just didn't work - customer support didn't help

My Passport for MAC didn't arrive, plugged it in and everything looked fine, started backing up my Mac and got an error message saying it couldn't complete it the fuse. After this message it went downhill. After ejecting the drive and reconnecting it, the external drive didn't show up in Finder (and Finder is set to look for external drives), tried all ports and no difference. Tried it with another Macbook, same problem. Run First Aid with Disk Utility - Failed. Did the usual internet research,

    Beware of hardware encryption

Full disclosure: I bought this to use with a Windows computer (there were no other models available), not a Mac. Aside from the "for Mac" markings on the box and the back of the case, I think this is exactly the same physical product as the "regular" My Passport drive. Good news if you want to use this with another operating system or want to use a non-Mac with a Mac. Apparently there is also software on the drive, which in this case is clearly intended for Mac. I'm not interested in it no…
