Four stars because they're impressively waterproof and overall solved a real problem for me. Durable and stylish, they don't look like raincoats while keeping my feet dry and beautiful. However, I would like to give it a 3.5 because traction is a real problem. They're good in mud (and probably mud, although I haven't tried them) but terrible on smooth, flat ground. Even on sidewalks with a decent texture, they are very slippery and completely useless on, say, smooth subway tiles. My regular old Converse grip much better than them on most regular surfaces, wet or dry. I thought maybe it would improve with some wear but I've ridden about a hundred miles in them and they are as slippery as ever. They won't dry out your feet on the mat and they squeak TERRIBLE indoors if they're even a little wet - I have to use a paper towel or something to dry the tread and stop the awkward squeaking. All in all a good shoe but the tread feels like it was designed for the aesthetic of heavy traction wellies rather than actual traction on anything.
