It produces a fairly mild shock (I experienced it myself). Must be placed specifically on the dog - read the instructions. I think some of the reviews left here are for a different product as this collar is hand shock only. It's not anti-barking like I thought when I got it (hopefully to reduce nighttime barking). Just make sure you know when you're getting this: it's a manual training collar with electric shock and "positive feedback" buttons, it's NOT a leash collar (if you leash your dog for training, you'll need a different one collar or harness). ), it can only be used 12 hours a day and requires daily and weekly maintenance, and if your dog has a thick coat, it may not work. It says cut your hair (not shave) but my very thick haired dog just wouldn't respond to any button presses.
