Review on Carbon Steel Coupling Finish Threads Hardware for Nails, Screws & Fasteners by Mauricio Woodard

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent quality connecting nuts.

Carbon steel swivel nut, black oxide finish, 1/2"-13 thread These nuts are an example of why so many of us try to buy "Made in the USA" products. Heavy-duty carbon steel, black finish Oxide finish (similar to gun barrel bluing) and immaculate workmanship and threads. There is no room for improvement. My application called for the strongest 1/2" x 13 nuts available, so I researched the specs of all the flare nuts ( essentially equivalent to , superlong). nuts) are available online. I've found that 1/2" x 13 stainless steel couplings use a 5/8" socket, meaning their sidewalls are only 1/16" thick at their thinnest point. They're likely to break. Standard nuts 1/2" " Stainless steel use a 3/4 inch head so that they are stronger. The sidewalls are three times thicker than stainless steel connectors and 50% thicker than other connectors. We have lived here for 35 years. To fix this, I constructed the assembly using dual 1/2" stainless steel threaded rods, 1/4" sheet steel, and other hardware that doubles as a heavy-duty turnbuckle. Tightening these flare nuts creates a serious compressive force that causes the wall to rise and end up where it should be. Conventional 1/2" x 13 nuts have too few threads to withstand that much force - hence the need for these heavy duty flare nuts. See project photo.
