Review on Hario 'Sommelier' Syphon Coffee Maker, 600ml: A Classy Brewer for an Exquisite Coffee Experience! by Lisa Ramirez

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Great coffee maker, makes great coffee but doesn't pour well.

This brewery is great - I love their unique style. Brews great - no worse than any other siphon (I also have a Yama on the stove, two Conas and two other Harios - Next and Miniphon). I've mostly used it with a reusable stainless steel strainer in place of the cloth filter that came with it, and with a butane gas burner in place of the alcohol burner that came with it. Maybe my device is just an anomaly, but my biggest complaint is that it doesn't pour well. As with the wine decanter (from which this siphon style borrows), pouring out the last few ounces is often difficult. Although I expected it. The big problem is that, despite the spout, it always pours an exceptionally wide stream and/or multiple streams. You have to dip the rim of the carafe into the rim of the cup to avoid spilling it all, and even then, wide-necked cups are almost essential. As a result, of the 6 siphons I have, this is the one I use the least.
