Review on ๐Ÿ“ถ Enhance Signal Reception with Metra 44-TY23 Replacement Antenna for Toyota Vehicles by Brian Price

1998 3RD GENERATION 4RUNNER EVALUATION - NOT PERFECT PREP - BUT WORKS

I have a 1998 4Runner and found this antenna replacement that Revain says will fit, so ordered it I. Well, in the package that came it says it's suitable for 89-95 years! So crap, but my electric antenna is broken so I decided to give it a try anyway. It "fits" but not as an OEM. Luckily all the screws and bolts line up which would otherwise be a deal breaker but where it doesn't fit is the plastic/rubber fit where it connects to the fender. It's slightly offset, the spacing at the top allowing the tendrils to tilt slightly. It doesn't bother me to be honest, it kind of matches the roof pillars just behind it. Center front to back, but not left to right. The incline helps you not get caught in the trees when riding on 4 wheels, that's a plus. If you don't mind a perfectly straight antenna, this antenna is for you. Cheap. Keep in mind that this project isn't just about replacing the fender antenna, you'll also need to route the wire to the radio through the passenger dash, which is quite inconvenient. I will report the sound quality of this antenna in comparison. to a defective OEM. 3 stars for now, if everything works fine I'll increase it to 4. EDIT: Raising it to 4 stars sounds great and matches the reception of every other OEM antenna in different vehicles. I've lived in the same area for a while and even hard-to-reach stations work well.
