They were thick and would have kept our daughter warm but unlike most trousers which have a seam down the middle there is a large piece of fabric down the middle so there were two seams, one on each side of step. This central stripe ran from front to back at the waist, making them lighter than pants. If worn with a t-shirt it would look ridiculous. Worn with a longer mid-rise shirt or dress over it would be great, but for standalone winter pants, this isn't the best option. None of the pictures show that odd center band instead of the single center seam found on most pants. Returned for style, not quality or thickness.
