TOP BEAM is a 4 x 6 pressure treated beam Requires a 4x6.i beam LENGTH of top beam - you decide Manufacturer recommends using a 4x6 -114" (9 ½ ft) length of kiln dried wood. Manufacturer warns that the top beam will bend and warp if longer than 144" (12 ft). ii. Three Swings - You may need a 132" long top beam to accommodate 3 swings a safe distance apart. (18" per pivot, 16 "Distance between pivots, 16" at each end between outer pivots and frame, plus 7" beams in each bracket at each end). [7-16-18-16-18-16-18-16-7 ]iii.The length of the top bar will depend on what you are hanging from it.Examples: two swings, one Porch swing, a tire or disc swing, a combination of different swings. You need to study the recommended spacing to use each one safely, trim the length of the beam accordingly, and decide where to place the swing hangers. Beginners TIP #1: Put a wood beam in Install a brace If your 4x6 beam is too narrow to fit in the brace, try using a planer, belt sander, or chisel to lower the ends of the top 4x6 beam slightly to tighten the brace fit.ii. SECOND - with the back of the beam on the ground, attach the SWING HANGER (sold separately), carefully measure and leave the recommended distance between each set of swing hangers and between the outer swing and the swing frame. You may need to investigate this for your unique swing set. (The distance between 3 turns on a 132 inch bar is given below.) c. THIRD - Insert the 4x4 legs into the brackets so the beam is lying on its back on the ground (top to bottom). Depending on the fit of your 4x4 legs, you may need to follow the tips above to install the beam in the bracket. i.e. THEN after installing the LEGS into the bracket, attach the brackets to each LEG by pre-drilling holes for the screws (included). Bring in ratchet lock bolts i.e. Optional: Finally, for extra stability, you can add a 2x4 (or 2x6) CROSSBAR on each end of the frame. Attach the crossbar between the uprights with long external screws or bolts (sold separately).3. TURNING DISTANCE.a. I still need to cut the bottom of my 4X4 legs at an angle so they will sit flat on the concrete pavers I placed under each leg. I've found that laying pavers under 4WD vehicles prevents rotting. Also, I will be using heavy gauge wire and ground anchors to hold the swing in place and prevent the frame from swaying.
