Review on Wimberley RB-100 Riser Block - Enhanced Performance and Crafted in the USA for Wimberley Head II by Stephen Tharpe

Nicely done expensive solution to a first world problem

Wimberly's 25mm tall, 50mm diameter Wimberly lifting block offers more space than competing options that are much cheaper. However, before you settle on any of these other options, please note that Wimberly has a 3/8" male thread. So if you need to fit a 1/4" head, it won't work without buying an adapter. kernel. The lever bar is a nice touch, allowing the block to have smooth sides without an immediate grip penalty, although the bar is another item to lose. It's about an inch long. By loosening the set screw in the side hole, you can lengthen the bolt to meet most needs. In my case I bought it to hold the monopod to use as a very tall center column for my Gitzo Systematic tripod. Combined with the panorama disk, the long 3/8" bolt on the lifting block securely fits the thick end of the spare thread monopod to the flat base of the tripod as the setup puts the ball head out of reach.

Pros
  • Lots of positive vibes
Cons
  • For old
