Review on Cisco Linksys E2000 Advanced Wireless N Router by Gary Revils

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Good upgrade from WRT54GS with SpeedBooster

I had a WRT54GS with SpeedBooster for several years (5 years I think) and it worked fine. A few months ago I started having problems connecting to the internet. I assumed it was AT&T's DSL speed, but couldn't be sure because sometimes I had a good connection and sometimes not much. So I started looking and came across a firmware update for my router. Firmware updates can be dangerous as they can render your hardware unusable if not downloaded properly or if you download the wrong version etc. So I generally avoid these updates when I can. But I figured if I upgraded my router and blocked it (make it inoperable) then I would have a reason to buy a new router. Well, my internet connection barely slowed down when I downloaded the firmware update, and guess what – I had a brick. So I bought this product and it works great. I have extended range and guest internet connection. The guest connection is broadcast (can't be hidden), but I've enabled Mac filtering so only the computers I've listed can access the guest connection. Oh btw, the CD that came with it didn't work for a DSL connection, so I just opened the interface and typed everything in manually, no problem - it took about an hour on all my machines. Great price in Revain too. December update: bid farewell to AT&T and switched to Comcast which is now getting great speeds, typically 10Mbps to 20Mbps, great for Netflix (just keep in mind that internet isn't usually unlimited as most Carriers advertise it, the fine print in Comcast's agreement gives a maximum usage of 250GB per month, which is way more than most people use). My router works great!
