I was trying to use these as Halloween decorations and was hoping they would be more Violet. They are, but they are very dark. Even if you were hoping for a black light effect, the performance is so weak that they even dim in the dark. Unless they produce a ton of light, I doubt they'll be of much use in the summer for attracting bugs. You just can't see ultraviolet light. There are better bulbs out there.
