I have a large tank (a combination of natural and artificial) for my dwarf puffer. I have kept several brown catfish with their team of "cleaners" in the same tank for four years. I bought two of these decorations a few months ago and I think they're one of the reasons my measles have had a baby boom and been so ridiculously successful at breeding for the last few months (after years of inactivity) because the puffers aren't getting can get past the spiky details. So they work when trying to raise fry. The only thing I don't like is the green handle in the middle as it looks a bit garish. I usually make sure it's gravel. If you put them on the floor, you'll often have to clean underneath them as well, as food debris quickly accumulates.
