I bought this because it's compact and perfect for traveling so I don't have to lug my larger lighted mirror. I'm only giving it 4 stars because the instructions weren't helpful at all (or I'm just mechanically-challenged!) Prior to buying the mirror, I saw other reviews that explained how to remove the bottom cover to insert the batteries by twisting rather than using something to lift up the plastic (which could cause breakage). I just placed my palm on the bottom and twisted to the left and it worked very easily. What I had difficulty with was getting the bottom portion to open so I could get to the on/off switch and to raise the mirror. Maybe it's just this mirror, but it took several attempts to realize I had to pull down on the little notch with quite a bit of pressure. Once I finally got the darn thing opened, I loved it. Several times opening/closing has made it where I don't have to apply as much pressure. Also - to get this model to raise, you have to hold both sides of the center mirror (once the base is open) and pull up which extends the height. By no means is this as bright as a larger lighted make-up mirror but it will definitely serve the purpose of easy portability along with providing close to enough light for these 51 year-old eyes!
