Following the allure of the evaluations, I hastily purchased three pieces in a case intended for blowing. At speeds above 800 rpm, they let out a high-pitched howl. The peak occurs between 1000 and 1200. The wail becomes less audible between 1300 and 1400 because of the wind. A tabletop system unit amplifies the howl to a level where I can hear it clearly. It'll drive you completely insane. I don't think anyone will notice if you put a system unit under the table. The only real downside to these fans is the noise, but otherwise they are a great value.
