I get my full 100Mbps and 35Mbps upstairs, even 15 feet from the router and separated by furniture or an entire floor (standing directly below the router). At 25 feet I'm getting about 85% of my full potential speed. I am using this adapter to upgrade the 2 x 1 Wi-Fi antenna that came in my laptop. It's very small and perfect for laptops, you don't have to worry about hitting the adapter and damaging it and your laptop's USB port. The 2.4GHz antenna is mediocre at best, delivering half of my potential Wi-Fi speed even when standing next to the router or 25 feet away. The adapter heats up (does not heat up) and is not designed for desktop computers, there are better adapters for desktop computers. Edimax sells the same device for less.
