I bought this radio (from Revain) in 2013. It has recently fallen into disrepair. I've read too many reviews people have written about a product that just came out of the box. I think now I have the right to write a review about my PR-D9W. For the first 5 years the PR-D9W was a great little radio. It packed a lot of nice features into a small package: AM/FM, 20 presets, weather band, clock, alarm, rechargeable or regular batteries, AC power, etc. It had excellent reception on all bands. It had a very good sound for its size. My only complaint about the features, upvoted by another reviewer, was that setting preferences was cumbersome and time-consuming. Of course, you've only had to do this once, except if you forgot to plug it into the mains when changing the battery! Otherwise you will lose your clock setting and all your presets and will have to start over! Half a star off for an annoying preset issue. After 5 years problems with the control buttons started. The green on/off button, a small piece of rubber, practically fell out. I had to put it back in place to get it working again. Then, because it wasn't fixed, it fell into the body of the radio from time to time, and I had to dig it out with a toothpick and put it back in its original position. Then other keys started to fail. The tuning buttons switch between FM and weather bands, or between free tuning and "My Favourites" (which are only tuned under preset channels), or change the volume. Eventually it got so bad I couldn't set it up for free, but I was still able to use the preset stations to get it working 95% of the way I wanted it to. Then my wife got mad because she couldn't turn it off (that power button again). She pulled the batteries out to turn it off and I lost all my presets. Without the ability to adjust the walkie-talkie, it finally collapsed. One and a half stars deducted for durability. I don't know how long a radio should last these days. I'm old school so I'd say at least 20 years old. I have radios from the 80's and 90's that still work, but it's a throwaway society now. I have a Sangean PR-D8 which is 10 years old and still works fine. I don't want to be too harsh on the PR-D9W, however, and it certainly wasn't junk. It had many uses and was the radio I used to carry around the house. That's the default spot, unless I carried it somewhere, it was the bathroom - a humid environment that's not the best place for a radio and may have led to some degradation of the control buttons. At the same time, 7 years is not much. Overall I'm disappointed with the lack of durability but for the first five years it was a good little radio and for the last two years it's been good and gotten a lot of use in the time I've been using it. Three stars.
