Hanging rod with spike is useless and dangerous

I don't know whose idea or invention these spikes on a hanging rod have. First I tried it and it slipped and it damaged my wall and it didn't do anything as advertised. Good thing these spikes are removable. Removed, pre-drilled and screwed neatly and hung up the curtain rod without any further problems. It took me 20 minutes to play around with these spikes. Took me another 20 to hang 3 more sets of curtains without them. When finished they look pretty good and I'm very happy with them.
